When we're listening to words, a lot of our attention is being spent on what's the emotion going on for that person. And anything that I can do to diminish the cognitive burden of the person wondering what I was actually thinking and what we're actually talking about will make this conversation more effective. As soon as I said the word feedback, your stomach dropped a little bit, you're like getting ready for something. So if we put somebody into a fight or flight mode, when we're starting a learning conversation, right there, their attention narrows,. Their ability to be creative goes away, their focus narrows, and they get less effective at solving problems.
