The Importance of Religion in the Early 20th Century

By the 1920s and 30s there are sort of more secular visions of Asia which is interesting. Afghans in the early 20th century really fascinated by Japan as were Ottomans and Iranians but this fascination with Japan begged other questions well these people worship an emperor as a god. I'm not sure how happy we are with that. So the rumors, there were frauds, knowledge, inter-Asian understanding wasn't always based on reliable sources. If you're translating a book in the middle of Iran in 1880, how would you know this book in Russian or French? How would you know?
