The Confederate army paid a high price for its victory Nearly 13,000 rebels were killed wounded or missing in battle more than a fifth of Lee's entire army lost their lives. On May 10th Stonewall Jackson died of pneumonia but Lee had secured his greatest and most improbable triumph.
