There was a merging category of users that wanted kind of needed to build internet scale software. And you could build a simpler database that would solve that problem. That was already what the NoSQL movement was about. It was about introducing sharding. You've got these mainstream technologies that have got better at dealing with everything. Then on the other side, you've got these niche databases, which are for very specific use cases and relate to some form of performance.
