Are You Saying Taiwan's Independence From China Is a Vital Australian Interest?

Alan Jones: Are you saying that Taiwan's independence from China is indeed a vital Australian interest, which we must be ready to fight or war to protect? It's interesting, if so, because this is a view never previously articulated by an Australian government. I would also say, however, that I explicitly do not see it as being in Australia's interest to do what Paul Keating did - renounce any important interests at all in the avoidance of war in that part of the world. We do not want anyone resorting to force under any circumstances. But we're in a tricky situation here where it's clearly in our interest to try to have, at the very least, a stabilized relationship
