Solzhenitsyn's Existential Explanation of Evil

Solzhenitsyn's accounts are precisely personal and experiential, but they give rise to a larger claim about moral and personal responsibility. They also have immense implications for taking on the grand ideological projects of modern times which are based upon a denial of intrinsic evil in the human soul. And then one is given permission by some inexorable logic of history to commit genocide against those who are deemed intrinsically evil.
