18 Forty Eight Is an Outlie in the History of Revolution

The great revolutions cannot be explained without the wars that either precede them or follow from them. So it wasn't peaceful, because, as you've already hinted, maybe we should say more about this,. It was extraordinarily violent, much of it. And so if one of the lessons for the 20 first century from 18 forty eight is the possibility of peaceful, but really meaningful, political change, it depends what you mean by peace. But if peace means the absence of war, is that something does mark it out as a revolutionary moment? We're not going to repeat the mistakes of that earlier era.
