Humans have been wearing their hair and braids for at least 3,000 years. For African people, it meant you were closer to the gods because it was on top of the head. In ancient Chinese culture, young girls would leave their hair braided until their 15th birthday. Men and women used hairstyles to symbolize their place in their community,. Their religion, and whether they were married or not.
