Wieners Memoir of Silicon Valley offers for me an introduction to the intertwined legacies of informatics and cultural theory. So, put simply, in that book, I sought to uncover the sources of what seemed like a deep and abiding kinship between critical theory and fields such as computer science. What I really uncovered is a story of how planetary scale strategies for structuring modern academic research universities promoted digital computing and the closely related theory of cultural codes.
