Anna had met nicky twice, once when he was about a year old and again when he was seven. She didn't care to know that a 12-year-old could wilfully end his own life. The closest she and anna came to having it out was when anna said to her, you've given up. It was not lost on her that anna had been pregnant when she began to distance herself, had withdrawn from her to protect the child who had apparently now taken his ownlife.
