The Different Endings of Speech
The way people use their progressive participles can affect the way they are perceived. The old English ending for progressives for ING was actually not ING but IND. When literacy started to be more widespread and people were at that time writing the progressive participle as ING, even though it had come from an old English endingIND. So we sort of misanalyzed our IN endings as ING by the way that written word was being elevated. In fact, if you look at things from 1700s, you find something else on verbs called ING which is what in old English means "to raid"
