Young Nero also had a massive ego and would often neglect affairs of state in order to practice his liar. This was the small harp that was popular in the Greco-Roman world. Apparently Nero was known to make his counselors and foreign dignitaries sit through interminable liar recitals. Having your emperor perform on stage was almost as scandalous as having him sell his body on the street. But it is here that we can find the roots of the fiddling story.
