The Importance of Technology in Society

In Western society we sort of have the idea of wealth, financial wealth, money. This is something we all very much understand, but that becomes one of the things we coordinate around as a society. We go in on projects together, we coordinate to create wealth or gain wealth for ourselves. That's almost a pre-rational commitment. And so if you're thinking about how could society work differently what you're talking about is what are the different priorities people have? What are the different worldviews people could be coordinating around? In that sense, it's like there's just an engineering discipline here. It just happens that the stuff that's built out of is philosophy rather than metal.
