The Mixed Legacy of Philanthropy
Timothy Stanley: I think we need to understand that this is the mixed legacy. John Stuart Mill was making these arguments less directed against the constraints of the government. He argues in his 1859 book on liberty, he argues that there should really be no limitation upon the expression and exercise of personal liberty. And so this introduces then a kind of default into the political domain of a kind of libertarian ethos.
