There are fewer people living in manhattan to day than there were a hundred years ago. A lot of that is declining household size because the population is aging. If you're a family with kids, Manhattan is a really expensive place to live. Try in to ao, trying to find extra space to accommodate kids who don't generally bring home incomes and contribute to the family budget is really tough.
