The Resurrection of Youth in the Old Testament
The bible shows us sexual love as a response to death. Isaac is comforted after his mother's death when the servant returns with rebecca. And judah less honourably seeks renewal after his wife's death by visiting a prostitute. The lily or lotus was, as athmar kiel argues, a symbol of regeneration and rejuvenation in the ancient near east. In the later image of the bride as vine or palm tree, she appears as a sort of tree of life.
