On October 22, 1944, this is one of the more exciting attacks ever conducted by an American submarine of the war. The Japanese had no indication that there was an American submarine in the area until Tang sunk two ships within a couple of hours. "It's just kind of kind of an eerie ominous beginning," says author Bill O'Kane.
