Johnny, Luther and Marshall wanted to sound like the Louvin brothers. They were having fun together, but Cash was ambitious to do something more. That's when he heard a record recorded day after his plane touched down in Memphis. The group went to see Elvis, Scotty and Bill perform - playing on back of flatbed truck. But they still needed some variety as their limitations meant that they had to improvise.
