The Intuition of Rights Is an Attack on the Idea of Rights Per Se
Every attempt to give good reasons for believing that there are such rights has failed. The introduction of the word intuition by a moral philosopher is always a signal that something has gone badly wrong with an argument. If you believe in natural law, you can plausibly believe in natural rights if it's naturally the case that all men are created equal. And then you can speak meaningfully about it being illegal or wrong inherently to take their life without just cause. I have been arguing that there is a version of rights that is derived from the natural law tradition, but only one version, and that is the american version,. which links it back to the english version, and which in turn links rights back
