Is ERCOT Taking the Threat Seriously?
The OSTP report claims that 17 gigawatts of crypto facilities are in the process of connecting to the grid. The best analogy here is if you plug a Bitcoin mine onto a 100 megawatt transmission line and you want 300 megawatts of capacity, it's not possible. So this is what ERCOT is doing right now. They're plugging these loads into the model. Maybe they have a break even price where they turn the loads off or maybe they don't. But at some point, you can say hey, we can't serve you reliably.
