The Promise of Exodus 15 Is the Promise of God's Garden
The righteous man is a fruitful tree planted by streams of water who's welcomed in the assembly that gathers around god. But those who delight in the law of the lord aren't merely invited into god's garden, they some sense, are god's garden - an outpost of eden in a wilderness world. This arboreal image is a root metaphor, so to speak, for the people of god. Israel is a vineyard planted in the land of away's presence, crying for him to make his face shine on them again. The anticipated future is of sons like plants and daughters like pillars in a temple, a garden sanctuary.
