The Cold War's Fight for Space
By 1964, the Soviet space program by contrast is wobbling somewhat. Sergei Korolev can't help but feel envious of America's progress. The two Cold War superpowers putting aside their differences and teaming up for a groundbreaking voyage into the heavens. Then, on November 22nd, 1963, Kennedy is shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. Some believe that in a roundabout way, the tragic death of President Kennedy actually salvaged America's missions in space.
