The Problem With Self-Contained Shows

This all came out of vaudeville. James Brown's idea was like, let's do all this in-house. I'm tired when he was younger before he had the influence and the success to take over things. He would be on shows where there'd be different acts every night. Most of them just did two or three songs. The star would do a half an hour.
