How Male Imagery Has Come to Be So Common in Western Culture?

In his teen years the Internet wasn't a worldwide web. It was a bulletin board system where you go for queries. World religions have not always thought of God in primarily male terms. And so I wonder if you could help us shed any light on how male imagery came to be so common.
