The effect of that law on the way people looked at black people. The equation of blackness and almost a genetic criminal trait became embedded in American culture. And of course then you see this obviously in the evidence of police. I mean we know for instance that blacks and whites smoke marijuana at exactly the same rate but blacks are 3.64 times more likely to be arrested for using it than their white counterparts.
