The Evolution of Orthodontics
Fossil records show no evidence of crooked teeth 10 to 12,000 years ago. But by the end of medieval period everyone had all 32 teeth in them - up to 1,400 in Britain. The industrial revolution and orthodontics started an industry that made teeth straight. So we see a spectacular rise starting at the beginning of the 20th century. This is winning the lottery as far as some new gene is concerned, spreading across the population.
