All of the nearby greek air fields with paved runways had been given over to bomber wings, so the par troopers would have to use fields and dirt roads. Now these fields were ruddy messes and badly on level, so some one decided to plough the entire things and attempt to make them more level. By some estimations, a dust cloud rose to three thousand feet and made it impossible for formations to follow each other at intervals of any less than 17 minutes.
