In 1917, there were two events where white men were arrested and a mob came and took the man out of jail and lynched him. And you're like, if that happened to a white guy in 1917, what do you think would happen to an African American who was accused of sexual assault? So that was a part of the fear and the buildup, because you could recognize four years before the Tulsa police weren't necessarily doing their jobs,. In one case, as you mentioned, they sold the rope to a crowd and you had police officers directing parking for this lynching for a white person in 1917. There's lots of kindling ready for this fire to set off.
