The Importance of Experiential Preparation for Preaching

Edwards: Zeal, no matter how high it is pitched, abstracted from the spiritual understanding of truth, will produce bluster. Holy affections are not heat without light, but evermore arise from some information or actual knowledge. Edwards argued that this assurance of knowledge was not irrational or opposed to reason and could only arise from a work of the Spirit. Such assurance is essential, experiential preparation for preaching.
