Introduction

The US economy is now bigger than the economy of the European Union. Europe has had stagnant economic growth for more than a decade now. The mood in Europe mostly seems to be grim with Germany seemingly in recession and inflation still high after a winter of angst over energy supplies. We thought we'd look at the economic fundamentals of the EU-US relationship and ask whether the partners are starting to diverge from one another.
