The Role of Data Collection and Data Standardization When It Comes to Existential Risks
I'm wondering more broadly what is the role of data collection and data standardization when it comes to existential risks. I think here the idea of standardizing things is very important because the only way you can build a surveillance system is by systemizing thing and looking at them every day even when nothing happens. And we might react as quickly as possible but if it's going to kill humanity I think we need to think about it beforehand. It sounds like one of the challenges here with this kind of experimental long-termism idea though is that it must be really tricky to differentiate where you're learning valuable lessons from these order of magnitude smaller but still relevant crises.
