People with horrible abusive childhoods also are more likely to develop all the metabolic disorders. Those people tend to be more hyper vigilant and have trouble sleeping. We can't leave them in an abusive home and expect that we're going to improve their mental or metabolic health, she says. But there are many strategies that we can use to help that person recover.
