The Importance of Realistic Foreign Policy in the 2020s

John Avlon: It's theoretically possible for the United States to pursue foreign policy realism. He says there are two big problems that we would like anyone who is interested in steering the U.S. onto a realist path to grapple with and actually have come up with solutions to. The current model for the military is not working because people aren't willing to sign up, he says. Avlon: For us to be realist in our dealings with China or Russia, for example, we have to maintain a sort of realistic assessment of who the people in the Kremlin or you know the forbidden city really are.
