Introduction

Calcalitic is made up from the greek words calcos, which means copper and enlithic, which means stone. Roughly, we consider this age to cover the period from the earliest evidence of copper smelting around five thousand b c e. In order to find naturally occurring copper, though, you have to be in the right area of the world for it to have been naturally produced. And being a solid metal, it had to be produced by a significant natural event such as tetonic plate collisions.
