I think that the great American novel of Midnight's is about a woman who even if she hasn't fully fully got there and hasn't done it yet know she is going to have to dump herself soon. I was just like okay with that tiny last piece of the jigsaw puzzle this album completely unlocks for me and I know exactly what it's about. But yeah I mean obviously not to go immediately wanky but I do think a new historicist reading of Taylor Swift is completely appropriate. The author can never be separated from their context and their personal history and indeed the wider history in which they operate too.
Could Joe Alwyn's departure from Taylor's life be the skeleton key to understanding Midnights, Taylor Swift's murkiest album? Jen Cownie returns for a track-by-track study that, she believes, tells the story of a woman who is breaking up with herself.
