Aphrodite, the Maiden of the Gods
Heaven hid him in an ambush and put a jagged sickle in his hands. He swiftly lopped off his father's members and cast them away to fall behind him. And not vainly did they fall from his hand, for all the bloody drops that gushed forth, earth received. They were swept over the main a long time and a white foam spread around them from the immortal flesh. In it there grew a maiden who was called aphrodite by her gods and men. But these sons, whom he begot himself, heaven used to call titans in reproach.
