I always thought child, you know, people who are attracted to children, it's a really interesting case. I think that we need to support those people and help them stop doing or not engage in that type of behavior. What we need to permit ourselves is the right to feel sympathetic toward pedophiles who understand that their actions are completely inappropriate and would harm children.

Psychologist and author Jesse Bering joins us to talk about evolutionary psychology and his forthcoming book Perv. In the relatively uncontroversial part of the episode, we ask if homophobia is an adaptation and if women have evolved rape defenses.
