The Biden Administration's Choice to Frame China and Russia as Near Peer Antagonists

CNN's John Defterios says the new national security strategy is an effort to take what they had already framed last year. It seems to be kind of divided into two broad buckets, right? One is great power competition or near peer competition with China as the main long term threat and Russia as for obvious reasons, the main short term threat. And then on the other side, you have the Biden administration trying to think about how to grapple with long term transnational issues such as climate changeor pandemics.
