Buffett and Solomon Brothers
Buffett had become so attached to Berkshire, he just didn't want to let it go. By the mid 1980s, Buffett had gotten reconnected with Solomon Brothers run by a man by the name of John Gutfrent. In 1985, Solomon's profits hit over $557 million. This purchase was not timely, as in 1987, Black Monday hit the markets and cost Solomon $75 million. Around that time, Buffett purchased 14 million shares of Coca-Cola at a cost of nearly $600 million.
