The Importance of Board Service in Nonprofits
If you don't love the organization and the mission, you'll burn out pretty quickly. I think it's important to ask them for documents. Could I see the profit and loss? Could I see your bylaws? Even if you don't read them, just see who's willing to send them to you. What was the most recent board packet? And really dig in there, some small nonprofits, they are doing great work but they're always short on money. Are you ready to sign yourself up for that? That's something that you can find out by evaluating these documents.
