The Origins of the Pom in Old French

In the early stage of old french biblical translations as well as vernacular discussions of the fall of man almost exclusively referred to the forbidden fruit as a pom they did so because they understood that word to mean fruit in other words when the first translation of genesis into old french was produced and it said that eve took a pom and gave a pom to her husband. there was no word for apple the word pomom did the old french pom and it meant fruit as did the later old french version of fructus and so forth over time the old french word pom underwent what historical linguists call a semantic narrowing the meaning of pom started out very broad it started
