I think in the West there's been complacency and arrogance. We often haven't really needed to look very closely at what we did, because it was happening over there. It wasn't happening to us. In China, I think it's much harder because everybody saw it, and in many cases participated - so it's different. You can have a career built around a challenging counter narrative of history. There are books being put on the shelves every day which offer alternative narratives. Nobody here is being prosecuted, because they say that Winston Churchill was racist. These things can be discussed, and they are discussed. So I think we have a very, very long way to go."
