Augustine and the Bishop of Hippo Regius

Augustine of Hippo Regius was a layman who wanted to avoid being drafted into the clergy. He eventually became a priest in 391, at the age of 37. A year after Augustine's ordination, a prominent mannequin named Fortunatus was well known in Hipporrhagius. This mannequin had caused quite a stir, and Hippa's Catholics wondered if their newly appointed priest would engage with this mannequin in a public debate. But bowing to general pressure, the mannequin Fortunatus agreed, and the debate was arranged.
