Travellers and the New Age Counterculture
Travellers and local councils clashed in the 19 sixties. Planning laws could be used as a weapon to discourage or prohibit travellers from setting up camp within a certain zone. The westminster government was more aloof and didn't necessarily care about the details of what was going on on the ground. So parliament passed the caravan sits act, which required that local authorities must provide sights for travelling. And so many councils around britain did follow this directive.
