The Importance of Being Indirect

English is a really indirect language. I'm actually very similar to Japanese. The longer the sentence, the more polite it is. Imaginary situations only use would. Requests, would or could is the same unless you're talking about your plan. It's very difficult to try and summarize these in a clear way that makes sense and is easy to remember.
