Legalese is largely a byproduct of convenience, tradition, or respect for precedent. We still don't know why these complex features make their way into legal documents in the first place. The knowledge that lawyers dislike legalese just as lay people do doesn't automatically ease the cognitive burden you might have while reading these documents.
