In 2011, a team of archaeologists discovered a large animal burial site in Egypt dating back to the first centuries AD. Some wondered if this site could be the world's oldest pet cemetery. We think of pet keeping as just something that we do, but in fact it has a social history. And for a long time, the keeping of an animal for affectionate reasons was really restricted to people who had a lot of money.
