National Self-Determination in the First World War
When the Americans come into the First World War, an argument from principle had to be made in America for whether it could be a war. The American idea of national self-determination was basically limited to Poland and to countries of the Habsburg monarchy. So notoriously, Wilsonian self-determination did not apply beyond Europe. But for the purposes of this class, you should note that it also didn't apply to everywhere in Europe.
