Harriet Tubman led the famous Combahee River raid in 1863. Abraham Galloway, he had escaped to Philadelphia and then to Canada. He likewise came back south to develop this network of spies behind enemy lines. They all have transcendent or experiences, one just seeing the masses of people who are escaping from slavery. It was empowering in a way that being free in the north was not yet.
