So much time, in fact, that the records indicate that not all the hostages could be delivered when they were demanded. This would have been an absolute nightmare for the english aristocrats. And as for the norse, well, while it was vindicating and somewhat entertaining to see your enemies brought so low, it was also time consuming and boring.
